easy, cheap, and good

or, good, easy, and cheap. or, cheap, easy, and good.

edamame soup.

this recipe is a variant of several recipes for edamame soup. this isn't really even a recipe, it is more like a set of guidlines. everything is approximate.

you will need:

garlic cloves
a small onion
two small potatoes
a bag of frozen edamame (or fresh, if you are so lucky). i prefer the American grown edamame over chinese edamame, as heavy metals and industrial byproducts offend me.
a can of chicken broth
some sea salt (kosher, of course)
olive oil or left over bacon fat (i prefer the fat leftover from cooking five pieces of bacon for this particular recipe)

slice your garlic and onions. peel your potatoes.

put you olive oil or bacon fat in the pan. heat it up.

throw your garlic and onions in the pan. turn the heat down a little. you don't want to burn the stuff.

dice your potatoes. throw them in the pan and sprinkle some sea salt on on them.

while the potatoes are grilling, boil your edamame for six minutes.

when your edamame is done cooing drain, peel, and finally grill it.

let grill for a few minutes and then add a can of chicken broth.

let simmer for...as long as you fell like.

pepper to taste.

this shit be legit

i made some kick -ass portabella mushrooms last week. i never used to be a fan of mushrooms until my aunt irene cooked some AMAZING portabellas for us one time. so, the other day i decided to try to cook some myself and the results were [v]'antastic. after chris took his first bite he was like, "our marriage is legit." i busted up laughing and he looked relieved i took the joke so well.

so, here's how you can legitimize your marriage, too.

first, cook a roast for dinner the day before you plan on making the portabellas. cook the roast in beef broth and cream of mushroom soup.

then, on the night you are to serve the portabellas preheat the oven to 350 F. take a plate and pour olive oil on it and then sprinkle some coarse kosher salt on the plate. rub the caps of the mushrooms (after you wipe them of with a damp cloth) in the olive oil/salt mixture.

next, take three cloves of garlic and make thin slices length wise and place them in the portabella. then, stuff the mushroom with left over roast and pour some of the leftover broth, too.

top it of with broccoli tips and a pad of butter on the stem. bake for however long you think you should. i think i let it bake 30 minutes maybe a little less, but maybe more baking time would be better. i don't know. i always cook in terms of approximation. that's just the way i roll.

bogs rock!

bogs rock!
let's get one thing straight; bogs are not ugg boots. they are real boots. that are utilitarian, waterproof and warm in temperatures above -65 F. they are also comfortable and have revolutionized my outlook on foot wear. what have i been thinking trekking around the wasteland wearing chucks and flats? i wasn't thinking. but now feel like i have seen the light.

a golden christmas

SANTOGOLD

santogold is a fly chic. we got her record on vinyl and damn. this is the best fucking record of the year.

i am only buying vinyl from now on.

because:

1. it just sounds better.

2. you get a free digital download with most new vinyls now anyways.

so you get the cover art and you can put the shit on your zune to play in the car.

i really do think if i had listened to santogold on cd i wouldn't be digging it as much as i do. i would dig it , but not like this.

Blah, Blah, Blah....again

I finished 'Tis and I must say 'tis a great book. I almost didn't read it. When I was mulling over all the books in my closet and came across it I thought to myself No fucking way do I wanna read a extend play of Angela's Ashes. Its probably a book written because It could be published and because once it was published it could sell. I was so wrong.

Its funny, poignant(poignant. what a ridiculous word), and there are no quotation marks which just does wonders for dialogue.

Read it.

its alright to have a good time. yeah, its alright.

chris and i went out together, without the baby, for the first time in almost a year. it was a great time. i drank some wine and i can't think of an appropriate euphemism, but... i had a great time. we laughed and talked and it was nice.
